You’ve shot and edited your video and now it’s time to add the finishing touch: a title! Every great film deserves a fitting title, and you want yours to set the right mood so family and friends will look forward to the show ahead. Here’s where a little razzle-dazzle with animated text will make your work stand out from the crowd of untitled homebrew videos.
You can craft a stunning title using a motion graphics application like Adobe After Effects or Apple Motion. But these programs are too complicated for just cranking out a title, and mastering them takes time and effort. So it’s a good thing Cyberlink PowerDirector 9 lets you build great-looking animated titles in just a few minutes.
First, choose a background image for your title screen. A photo or a still from one or your video clips will do.
Next, it’s time to “enter” the program’s Title Room. (PowerDirector is organized around “rooms” for editing, transitions, effects, and so on.) My first time in the Title Room, I was surprised to see just two choices: a bare-bones title template and a link to CyberLink’s DirectorZone. But these are all you need. Novices or people in a hurry should check out the DirectorZone, an online community of PowerDirector users that offers hundreds of customizable templates that are ready to go. Woot!
Wading through all those titles takes some time, but you can filter searches by categories such as Graduation, Party, Vacations, Sports, and lots more. When you find one you like, just download it and install it as you would a browser plug-in. It shows up in PowerDirector’s Title Room automatically.
I’m more of a DIY kind of guy, so I went straight for the bare-bones title template, dragged it to the start of my timeline, and double-clicked it to launch PowerDirector’s Title Designer. If you’ve used titlers in other editing programs or worked with text in Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, you’ll find PowerDirector’s easy to grok.
All the basic controls for tweaking the size, spacing, and text are right there at the top of the preview window, while changing text colors is done using buttons running down the left side of the screen.
You can also adjust transparency (how see-through the letters are) and the angle of the shadow your text casts. (The latter is especially useful for matching shadows in your background image.)
Animating a title is as easy as choosing from a list of interesting effects. There are lots of fun ways to make the title enter and leave the screen. For example, you can have a flock of letters assemble themselves and then fade out, or have each letter change size in a rolling motion and then slide off the screen.
Naturally, you can preview your work while experimenting. My laptop’s second-gen Intel Core i7 processor was able to display complex animated text effects after the briefest of pauses, thanks to optimizations that let PowerDirector tap the CPU’s computational horsepower. Note: PowerDirector reduces graphics resolution during title previews for fast playback, and that blurs the text a bit. But after you’ve saved them, titles are gorgeous. Check out these examples on YouTube.

Even after having this program on my computer for about six months i cannot say anything about it because everything i try to do its always there 'Your version of Power Director doesn't support this feature ' , i tried to import a VOB file got the same message so i have no idea if buying the full version will do the job or not , at every click you get this message so one is never able to fully evaluate this program thus i can never purchase it or recommend it to anyone , their trial concept is faulty much too much do not work , i bought corel video studio instead .

Free Cyberlink Powerdirector Templates
Terry I,
Thanks, It is good to know , you are given a crippled version as a giveaway but you can get a thirty day five second version to evaluate . ( i wonder witch to choose )
I understand its their right to do what they like with their property but its also their right not to give at all, witch in this case i believe was the better option, but i am sure some people will find some use for it as is, so i wish to thank all concerned for the giveaway including GOTD .

james hardy,
Personally I'm not a huge fan of any Cyberlink software other than PowerDVD, so I don't have lots of experience with Power Director. That disclaimer out of the way, video & audio streams are each encoded using one of a variety of formats, e.g. mpeg2 video in the case of DVDs, usually accompanied by AC3 audio. One or both of those streams are then placed in a container -- using video DVDs as example, both streams, together with any additional audio streams & sub titles, are placed in a VOB container.
The good news is that video & audio streams can each be copied out of the container they're in, & placed in another type of container without re-encoding, either together or individually. SO if a video app doesn't recognize one type of container, it's very often possible to work with the same video in another type of container. A utility called Media Info can be handy to tell just what you've got inside of a video file -- you can get that, along with tools for changing the type of container file at videohelp[.]com .
While you've got your problem solved james, I wanted to mention that for everyone else since the Power Director giveaway is somewhat limited in what types of video containers it'll work with. Where they say: 'Doesn't support MKV, MOV, FLV', content for all 3 can often be placed in .avi or .mp4 files, which it says it does support.

mike,
True, 'LE' means lite, well it's either this or that. Within the concept of extended giveaway of the day period, more common 1 year upon new major version releases, no upgrades..
Good software, try it to experience the 'feeling' of producing videos.
I still use Abobe premiere 4.0 (freed to 5.0) on a machine running win98SE, no longer connected to Intenet :-). Costed me over 1200 € with the DV500 video card from Pinnacle.
OffT: Pro-lasso 2015 gotd lifetime installed today on WIN10 and upgraded without problems.
Why? Cause you can limit core use per application, thus preventing hick-ups..

james hardy: A fair comment about this developer, as the number of upvotes you've received shows. Regardless of whether or not its software is good, its history of crippled giveaways isn't. Nor does it seem to wish to learn anything from all the criticisms heaped upon it in comment threads such as this.
In reference to that subject though -- wishing to learn -- it may well be that others here might wish to learn of the existence of similar software that's superior in many respects to this Cyberlink offering. Just search for Vegas Movie Studio v13. But, er, don't leave it too late.

If I may pop in, just to help relax people who missed this Giveaway (or are wondering about the differences with PowerDirector and VideoStudio) - I purchased both of them over the last few years and find they are very similar in function, even if some 'effects' or 'templates' are different. Most video editing programs have similar capability, if purchased within the same price range..
Both VideoStudio and PowerDirector are 'easy-to-use', in my opinion, and I find myself popping into both of them for different Projects, as each has slightly different 'FX'. Although VideoStudio seems to render slower, I think it has good quality and slightly more output options. PowerDirector seems to render faster and be slightly easier to use, but only slightly. Depending on what 'package' you buy of PowerDirector, it can have less or more 'FX' than VideoStudio. Both will give good output if you choose a high bitrate, and both will be fine for sharing videos on YouTube.
If anyone missed today's great Giveaway (Thanks Again, GiveAwayOfTheDay!) - you will be satisfied with trying out and/or purchasing either VideoStudio or PowerDirector, for almost all video editing purposes.
HTH,
~T
